Turtle Beach X12 Review – A Great Headset

Turtle Beach X12 Review – This is the first gaming headset that I bought and it certainly did the job. I found it hard to find a better replacement with even headsets that cost $100+, so if you are new to gaming or have a tighter budget to spend on headsets, then this would be my number one recommendation.

One of the Best Gaming Headsets Under $100, Let Alone $50

The Turtle Beach X12 is one of the most popular headsets for the Xbox 360 and PC, because of its cheap price and yet amazing versatility. It competes as well in game even against headsets twice or even thrice its price, making it THE headset to buy if you are looking to up your game, but have a tighter spending budget, just like myself.

What Makes the Turtle Beach X12 So Good?

As I just mentioned, I love the Turtle Beach X12 because it provides excellent audio quality of both voice chat and in-game noise, giving you the advantage over your opponents, for a small, single payment. Some of you may be laughing due to the fact that I said ‘single’ payment, as what about the cost of batteries and the constant repairs you will have to make? However, this headset is USB powered, meaning that it never has to have new batteries or be charged up. It is also one of the most durable Turtle Beach headsets there are – trust me, if you treat it well, then it should last you at least a good few years.

Further Specifications and Features

So far, I have barely even touched the vast capacity of specifications that the product possesses. Here is a list of some of them:TB

  • Amplified audio – High quality sound.
  • Microphone monitoring – Allows you to hear your own voice through the headset.
  • Independent chat volume control – Allows you to hear more or less of in-game sound and your mates, separately.
  • Bass boost – Allows you to alter the sound of the audio to your preference.
  • Comfy earphones – Trust me, you can play comfortably for hours with these.

There are just some examples of what the Turtle Beach X12 has in store. I won’t list any more, because the examples stated will be the deciphering features towards whether you will purchase the product or not and the others are more technical which won’t have much meaning to most of you.

So is this Headset Perfect?

Like every single product in existence, the Turtle Beach X12 does have some minor issues. The problem that effects me the most is the fact that the cable wire is too long and there is no sophisticated way to keep it unravelled. Every now and again you will have to spend some time untangling the wire, because if you don’t, some of the wires pull apart, causing some very squeaky noises. Yes, this is a problem nearly every wired headset encounters, but it is one the Turtle Beach X12 fails to do with and therefore it isn’t perfect. However, talking of negatives, that really is the only problem that effects me!

Overview – Is this Headset for You?

As a whole, I think that the Turtle Beach X12 is a fantastic headset and it’s just a shame that it is only compatible with Xbox 360 and PC. It provides a range of features that allow you to hear what you want, with great quality sound, which can be altered. You don’t ever have to worry about putting batteries in it and the earphones are unquestionably comfortable. If you are looking for a cheap, quality headset, this would be my number one recommendation.

Click here to buy a pair of Turtle Beach X12’s from Amazon if you live in the US. If not, I would recommend buying them from– this would also be a better option if looking for a cheaper pair.

  1. Wow. I wish I knew more about gaming. But, sadly, I’m an old lady who grew up using manual typewriters and having to get up and walk to change the channel on the TV!!

    Excellent information here!!!

  3. This is my favorite headset between me and my husband because when it’s late at night and I’m trying to sleep or if our son is sleeping, my husband can get theater quality sound and bass from his headset and not a peep will come out from the surround sound.

    • Yes, it really is a great headset, with a great quality for it’s price. It’s still the one I use today, but unfortunately it’s getting a bit battered and I’m looking for a new one… It’s gonna be hard to beat!

  7. Which is better the turtle beach or the astro a40? When you consider price and quality.

    • They are both great headsets for their prices; personally, I would say get whichever one is within your budget or how seriously you are willing to take gaming. If you are willing to invest an extra $100 into a headset, then of course I’d advise to go for the Astro a40’s, but if you only have a limited spending budget and are more of a casual gamer, then stick with the X12’s!
